WHEN I SMOKED THAT CIGARETTE
Glowing ash
Smoke evaporating
like thoughts from mind...
Deep inside,
breath haunts memories
walking side by side
crawling to attack.
The ash drops
in a crystal ashtray
like years fall by.
Lost in oblivion
the wet filter
touches lips.
For one last time
the heat is on my fingertips.
Life shortened, as they say
by another five minutes.
A sigh of relief
crushed in ashtray...
Extinguished
yet alive.
Growing from strength to strength.
